The following is an update to let everyone know that a new course is starting on Wednesday morning in Javea - Peri Pera Cafe Bar by the Dolphin Roundabout.

We'll be getting together for coffee and Spanish with Helen, our new Spanish teacher. Helen gained her Spanish degree at Trinity College, Dublin. She charges an incredibly low fee each, for one or two hours, whichever we want.

Helen also offers one-to-one teaching in the Old Town, for anyone who would prefer that. (Please contact me for more information.)

The group of people who attend the lessons are very friendly, and it does give you the opportunity to meet other like minded people and share coffee with. Oh, by the way, you should taste the homemade delicious cakes, by Tracy, the owner of Peri Pera ... ! Yummy, so don't come thinking about your figure!

If you would like to come along ... head for the Dolphin roundabout in the Port and then head for the Guardia Civil, facing the sports centre. Peri Pera is on the left hand side, before you reach the residential properties. Spanish Lessons! I wonder how many people feel as I do.

Like thousands of others, I arrived in Spain to start my new life in this wonderful and beautiful country. The sun shone constantly and the colours of the flowers were magnificent. Everywhere I looked, I saw beauty.

Living in Javea is certainly a blessing with the Old Town, The Port and the lull of the sea. What more could anyone ask for?

Enrolling for Spanish lessons was one of my first priorities. The Spanish people were so friendly and the more I made an attempt to speak in Spanish, the more they appreciated it.

Anyway, then I started talking to other people and asked them why they didn't speak Spanish, only to be told that they would like to but, as they had no one to talk to, it was difficult and the easy way option, was to speak in English.

Yes, a large percentage of these people had had Spanish lessons - but how long can you have lessons, just so that you are speaking in Spanish, to a teacher. You need to be able to use those lessons all the time.

Anyway, this is where my thoughts are …

What I would love to get started is a way for everyone who wants to speak Spanish, to meet others for coffee etc. and start groups where they would spend whatever time they wanted together to chat in Spanish only. It could be for fifteen minutes or an hour, their choice.

I know there are probably groups out there already but, I haven’t come across any myself and for all those who are in the same position, i.e. wanting to chat in Spanish, I would like us to get together and start meeting for Spanish Chats.

People could even make new friends in the process and let's face it; we all like to have good friends in our lives.

So, my question to you is …
Would you be interested in meeting other people to chat in Spanish, helping each other with Spanish Lessons and making new friends in the process?

It would be wonderful if we could meet some Spanish people who would like to be involved and we could then return the compliment by also spending time with them on a different occasion helping them to speak English, if they so wished.
